The Hippie Shake is an online brand/retailer based out of South East London, with a worldwide customer base.

Started back in 2015 by husband & wife duo Naomi & Ben as an online vintage outlet, the brand quickly developed and began creating its own vintage inspired collections taking inspiration from the fashion, icons and music of the 60s/70s.

Since quitting their jobs and going full-time with the business two years ago the company has seen a YOY revenue growth of 90% and grown the team to 6 full time members of staff.

The Hippie Shake are now looking for a Managing Director to join their senior management team and work closely with the founders to lead the company on the next stage of its journey.

The successful candidate with have relevant proven experience in a scale-up ecommerce business, preferably in the fashion/apparel industry. They will lead day to day business operations and have direct responsibility for people management as well as the broader remit of leading and developing people, processes and performance across the company.

The role will be based out of The Hippie Shake’s studio located in Deptford, London.


  • Work with the founders to develop a business strategy for the next stage of the company’s growth. Then managing and continually refining this strategy to ensure strong translation into results.
  • Managing and growing the team in line with the company’s P&L. A team of the right talent who will further the business in line with the company’s strategy. Mentor co-founders and help them transition from a husband and wife start-up to more structured scale up business.
  • Bring an understanding of data and analytics to help the business make better decisions, moving away from gut feeling and ‘what we feel is right’ to choices based on facts and figures.
  • Help the company move from daily reactive fire-fighting to proactive planning, which is still agile and easy to change.
  • Bring a commercial lens to marketing activity to get a deeper understanding of customer acquisition attribution.
  • With over 50% of the company’s customers hailing from the US we see this as a huge opportunity and we’re looking for someone to help us grow and expand in this market.
  • Demonstrate a strong passion for the brand, its values and embed a company culture of continuous improvement, performance management and customer focus in order to better serve our community of customers.
  • Keep up to date with eCommerce best practice of tomorrow through training, research etc.


  • 2-3+ years’ experience in a senior commercial role in a scale up direct to consumer eCommerce brand, ideally within the fashion / apparel industry.
  • Experience working in a start-up business and environment.
  • Knowledge of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management, and general finance and budgeting.
  • Possess outstanding leadership qualities, skilled at helping build, enthusing and motivating a high performing team
  • Have great understanding of retail, eCommerce, the customer and marketing businesses.
  • Entrepreneurial and visionary with the ability to bring about change while maintaining the brand equity, strong values and ethos of the business
  • Ability to work under pressure, plan personal workload effectively, and delegate.
  • Have a proven track record in expanding to an international market (not essential).
  • Unequivocal credentials as an operational business builder with a proven track record of improving operational efficiencies
  • Never satisfied with the status quo; consistently motivating teams to deliver superior business outcomes and customer experience
